History
Cortland County Soil and Water Conservation District was formed on May 1, 1946 to provide assistance to County residents to control soil erosion and improve agricultural drainage. Since that time, changes in land use and state and federal programs have broadened the scope of conservation district responsibilities. SWCD is dedicated to promoting the conservation and wise use of our county's natural resources.
A cooperative relationship with other state and federal agencies provides Cortland County with the opportunity to receive the benefits of many programs. Priority issues in Cortland County are agricultural environmental management, soil erosion control, water quality, flooding, and agricultural land conservation.
