Conservation Education
SWCD is active with several
educational programs and activities. We provide various services to the public,
communities, schools, boards, and clubs. They include educational workshops,
school presentations and visits from the district mascot Ronny Raindrop®,
conservation tours, luncheons, and soils information.
Some events that SWCD sponsors annually are the
County Envirothon, Conservation Field Days, and Spruce Up America. These are
programs where SWCD works directly with schools in Cortland County. They include
learning about current environmental topics and issues, and care for natural
resources. SWCD also organizes the River Clean Up project, participates in the
NYS Envirothon, and has a booth at the NY State Fair. In 2005 the County Envirothon took place on May 5th with a team from Cincinnatus High School (see
picture top left) taking first place for the second year in a row! In close
second this year was a team from Homer High School (see picture top right).
